Shopping at Rite Aid with +UP Rewards

>> July 11, 2011

I never used to shop at drugstores, just because they always seemed so expensive and I never wanted to make an extra trip outside of where I get my groceries. Little did I know just how much I was missing out on! Rite Aid has now become one of my favorite places to shop :)

Rite Aid like many other drugstores have what is called a Wellness program. It's absolutely free and it allows you to qualify for all their sales and to receive all their rewards. You can sign up here.

The key to saving at Rite Aid is their +UP rewards. These rewards are coupons that are printed out after a purchase directly on your receipt from the Manufacturer. They usually state, thanks from "the name of the manufacturer." Then have a $ amount with a barcode. They usually have limit restrictions which means, there is a limit to the amount of the +UP coupons you can get from the manufacturer. You can think of +UPs as Rite Aid money :) remember when you were little and used play money to get things you wanted? Yes, that is the idea! Excepts, this is very real haha.

My suggestion if you are just getting started is to go in to the store looking for different +UP deals on products you have coupons for. Pay for your very 1st transaction all up front, then you will get a ton of +UP that you can then roll over to your next purchase on more products with +UP's to continue rolling over that money. The key is to keep rolling your +UP over from transaction to transaction so you NEVER have to pay a large amount out of pocket. It's almost like using Rite Aid bucks to pay for all the merchandise you are getting! Here is what they look like:

The store will promote these +UP rewards in their weekly ad as well as in the store! So for example, one sale that you see often at Rite Aid is toothpaste. Remember that awesome picture with all the toothpaste I got? Here's how  I did it. In the weekly ad there was a picture of Colgate Max Toothpaste on sale for $2.79. Directly underneath the price there was a +UP $2.79. Which means when I buy one toothpaste at $2.79 I get $2.79 coupon back on my receipt, ultimately making it free using zero of my coupons! Now if I had a coupon to add to this deal, it would make this purchase a money maker, which means I'm coming out with more money than I went in! There was a limit of 4 +UP for the toothpaste.

So I headed up to the register with 4 toothpastes and planned four different transactions since I didn't have a large amount of +UPs to cover the entire balance. Since this was my very first transaction "extreme" couponing I had to pay for the first transaction since I didn't have any +UP to apply toward my balance. The first transaction I paid the full price $2.79 + tax. Then the receipt printed out with $2.79 +UP or what I like to call "Rite Aid bucks." So then I began my 2nd transaction, total was again $2.79 + tax. I then handed over my "Rite Aid bucks" from my 1st transaction & the cashier swipes it through just like a regular coupon. My total was $0.18 cents for a tube of toothpaste that was originally $4.29! Then I got my receipt for that purchase, and yet ANOTHER +UP was printed. So I handed over my tube of toothpaste for my third transaction. Paid with my "Rite Aid bucks" from transaction #2 and again my total was $0.18 cents and received yet another +UP coupon for $2.79. My final transaction I did the same, cashier rang up the toothpaste and I handed my $2.79 +UP coupon. Paid $0.18 cents and then got my last +UP reward for $2.79. Now since there was a limit to 4 +UP if I were to buy more of this toothpaste, no more +UP's would print. So I leave the store with one coupon for $2.79 that I can then put towards my following purchase on +UP items! My mom actually did this same deal, so that's how we got a total of 8 toothpastes! Now if you had a large amount of +UP to roll over you wouldn't have to do individual transactions. You could ring them up all together, use your +UP rewards to cover the entire balance then get 4 $2.79 +UP on your receipt. Either way, works out the same!

What do you think are you ready to try it out? :) How about it. This week 07/10 - 07/17 the Softsoap Body Wash is on sale for $2.99 and it's originally $5.29. There is a great deal that ends up making it FREE. Yes I said it FREE! You buy (1) Softsoap BodyWash @ $2.99 you get $2 +UP reward. Making it only $0.99 cents. But wait there is a coupon for $1 off 1 Softsoap Bodywash making this completely free! Originally there were 4 here, but my dad already ran off with one. Haha.

Here's how to get them for free:

Since it may be your first purchase you can either ring them up each in separate transactions or you if you have enough money I suggest purchasing them all together so you can get all your +UP's at the end & start rolling over a good amount of +UP's and never have to pay out of pocket.

First, there is a $1 off 1 Manufacturer Softsoap coupon available in the Walgreens Summer Beauty Guide. Yes, Walgreens. Even though it states redeemable at Walgreens, the back of the coupon states manufacturer and just to be sure the coupon barcode does begin with a 5, which means it's acceptable anywhere that accepts Manufacturer coupons. These booklets look like this:

You can find these books at your local Walgreens, near the makeup counters or hanging up around that area. I simply asked the cashier where they were :) I picked up 4 of them so I could have 4 of the Softsoap coupons.

Once you have your coupons clipped and ready, your ready to hit Rite Aid! Select 4 Softsoaps with your favorite scents. If you choose to pay for these up front all at once, you can just hand them to the cashier. Once they are all rung up, hand over the 4 coupons. Your total should be $7.96 plus tax. Your receipt will then print out with 4 +UP rewards for $2 totaling $8.00 in +UP rewards. Meaning after your rewards, all you paid for 4 body washes was sales tax & saved $20.96 cents, you just can't beat that!

Do you understand their +UP system better? Hopefully you are able to try this out & let me know how it goes! If you have any problems @ the store, don't be afraid to ask the cashier for clarification or help. If you're still confused, feel free to comment under this blog & I will be more than willing to help you out! That's what I'm here for :)

GOOD LUCK!
